RE: Deep River CT Town Clerk content [ ref:00D3aql.5004I8DWb:ref ]
OK, let's try it your way. :)

Please remove everything below the Additional links box.

Above the box and below "Hours" please put the line "Please note: Only
payment by cash, check, or money order is accepted." in bold print.

The following is a complete list of Additional links in the wording and
order I prefer:

Downloadable Forms
Land Records
Dog Licenses
Hunting & Fishing Licenses
Marriage Licenses
Vital Certificates: Birth, Death & Marriage
Notary Public
Voting, Elections & Referenda
Parking & Transfer Station Permits
Minutes & Agendas
Boards & Commissions
Boards & Commissions Volunteer Form
Military Discharges
Genealogy
Ordinances
Passports
Freedom of Information Act
Connecticut General Statutes

Do you think that's too many links? They'll have to scroll down a little
but I put the most common subjects at the top of the list. A lot of
these links are already available on our current website. Can you
migrate them or do I have to send you each one?

Thanks! Another day, a little closer...

Hi

I replaced the info with your attachment, so here is how the page looks

The links go to another town's website....does that town handle those
topics for you? Or do you want to copy the info from those pages?

I will of course make the page any way you'd like.  Based on past
experience of building sites, I have noticed that the method you have
chosen (duplicating the center links as links in the bottom of the page)
in rare. I think the reason is to minimize confusion and to give people
one place to go to obtain info on any given page.

From our end, we usually recommend that the space below the links be
"rather short to avoid having to scroll too much (same suggestion
applies to all pages).

Just some food for thought!

(Please let me know about the links to the outside site- thanks!)

Miriam

Thanks Miriam. I agree but I'm a little confused. I thought all those
links were already in Additional links, except for the few I asked you
to add. The text I sent was supposed to go underneath the Additional
links box in case anyone did want a summary of what our office does
without having to jump around with links. Is it OK to have the same
links in both the Additional links box and within the text? That's how
Newtown has theirs and I really liked it. I just checked our prototype
and I want everything under the Additional links box to be replaced with
the attached document. Are we on the same page?

Hi Amy,

I would recommend making each one of those topics into it's own
"Additional Link."  This will make your page MUCH easier to navigate,
enabling people to go directly to their topic of interest, instead of
having to read through a long document.

My fear is that people will not take the time to read the page as it is
now, and will simply call you for answers to their question -- and that
is exactly what you are trying to avoid my making a comprehensive web
page!

What do you think?

Thanks!

Miriam

I have attached the revised content for the Town Clerks page to replace
what is currently under the Additional Links box.

Also, please remove the Charter link, change Boards and Committees to
Boards and Commissions (2 places), change Business Certificate to Trade
Name Certificate, and add the following link categories:

Land Records Index

Parking and Transfer Station Permits

Notary Public

Justices of the Peace

Elections and Referendums

Veterans Discharge Papers

Freedom of Information Act
