Cheverly GARDEN CLUB…why is it that every time this message goes to press we have a major weather concern….HOT today but it is going to get cooler and drier and we will be back to gardening. In June we made up and sent arrangements to the Shut-Ins on our lists and hope we did not miss anyone within a close driving area. Since we are not meeting formally during the summer, several items need to be shared with you.
Brookside Gardens is offering a School of Botanical Art and Illustration for interested persons. You may call 301-949-8230 or www.botanicartist.com for information. Should be a very interesting offering for sharing a love of plants and art with fellow students. One of our members has been active in this painting interest, but not there.
Will someone consider looking into the Blue Star Memorial Marker? You see these markers along highways and it is a unique opportunity for garden clubs to honor those who have served in our nation’s armed forces. PLEASE contact me at 301-773-1991 and at least look into it for us.
Now for anyone reading this….the Arboretum is in need of HELP. Budgets have been reduced and it was already on a limited budget. When I went to the President’s Meeting…there were busloads of interested groups touring the facility. We take for granted how important the Arboretum is and what it contributes. It is NOT just a place to visit in the Spring….there is work being done there that is VERY IMPORTANT everyday. It would be a loss in multiple ways if it were to be closed. The website is www.NCAFGC.org. Please download the letter to Congress
and mail it and TELL others about this also.
Please enjoy the summer…pull a weed if it is there and remember to water. If you should develop a case of poison ivy try TechNu. It works!!!
We have made contact with another garden club that might be interested in a bus trip to Chaticleer or somewhere else of interest….If you have any trip ideas please call Anne Gardenhour at 301-773-1991. See you in the fall.
