Town of Cheverly
News and Announcements
The Cheverly Town Council held a special meeting on October 24th to discuss how to respond to the recent WMATA proposal to decrease operating hours to allow for greater maintenance windows to provide for public safety.
However, many Cheverly residents provided feedback in response to an unofficial proposal floated by WMATA that called for the closing of up to twenty stations to reduce operating costs. While this proposal is not being considered by the WMATA Board it is deeply concerning to Cheverly residents.
Attached are three letters the Town Council voted to send regarding the current Metro situation.
1) A letter authored by the Cheverly Town Council regarding the current WMATA proposal, that emphasizes our concerns regarding the unofficial proposal that recommends closing up to 20 stations in off hours.
2) A letter authored by Prince George's and Montgomery County elected officials regarding the specific proposal being considered by the WMATA Board to reduce operating hours to improve public safety. The Cheverly Town Council agreed to sign on to this letter.
3) A letter to Governor Hogan asking that he work with county officials to identify a defined revenue stream that can sustain WMATA into the future.
