Cheverly Police Make B&E Arrests
On the afternoon hours of March 22, 2009, detailed uniformed and plainclothes Cheverly Police officers observed a group of suspects in the immediate area of a suspected breaking and entering (B&E). As officers converged on the group to seek identification, the suspects fled. During the course of an immediate pursuit, the suspects threw down property stolen in this B&E. After a lengthy vehicle and foot pursuit involving eight Cheverly officers, numerous County officers, a number of unidentified residents helping to keep the suspects in view, and the timely assistance of two Cheverly resident radio members, one suspect was apprehended.

Subsequent investigation revealed that two more B&Es perpetrated by these suspects had occurred just prior to the chase and more stolen property was recovered. In addition, a second suspect was apprehended later that night and, during the course of the execution of a court ordered search and seizure warrant at the suspect’s home, numerous other items of stolen property were recovered as well. Evidence suggests at this time that these suspects may have committed a large number of the Cheverly B&Es and a significant numbers of others throughout Prince George’s County.

At the present time, we are cataloging all the recovered property and evidence and will soon request that certain Cheverly B&E victims come by the station to see if identification of some of these items can be made. This investigation also now entails a large number of other law enforcement agencies that are looking at the same suspects for B&Es in their respective jurisdictions. At the present time, no further information will be released pending investigation. I would like to say, however, that the teamwork demonstrated by the Cheverly Police and Cheverly residents was outstanding although clearly not unexpected. Great job!
