ELECTION CALENDAR

The next Town election will take place on Monday, May 6, 2019
7 a.m to 8 p.m. This election will be for all six Councilmember seats and Mayor.

Town Elections are held at Town Hall in the Gym 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD  20785.





VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The deadline for registering to vote is Friday April 5, 2019 (30 days before election).

Call the Prince George’s County Voter Registration Hotline 301-341-7300, or download registration forms from the Maryland Board of Elections. You may also get registration forms at the Town Office
9 a.m to 5 p.m to submit to the Prince George's Board of Elections 1100 Mercantile Lane, Suite 115A, Largo, MD  20774.

ABSENTEE VOTING  

Who may vote by absentee ballot?
Anyone who can prove Cheverly residency.

How do I get an absentee ballot?
If you wish to request an absentee ballot, you may come to Town Hall - Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive an application for absentee ballot or download the application here Click here to download an absentee ballot application form.  Next, submit your application to the Town Hall Office 6407 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD  20785.
 
Applications for absentee ballots will be processed and reviewed by the Board of Election Supervisors for approval within four (4) business days after date received.  All Absentee Ballots will be mailed out with the instructions to absentee voters after the deadline for candidate filing nomination forms.

Ballots must be returned to the Town Hall Office prior to the polls closing on Election Day - Monday, May 6, 2019 by 8:00 p.m via US Mail or in person by the individual or designee.

The final day to request an application in person by the individual or designee will be Thursday, May 2, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. You may request an application in person by the individual or designee between Monday, April 29, 2019 and Thursday, May 2, 2019. Within 24 hours, after the Cheverly Board of Election Supervisors processes your application and you are determined to be qualified, Ballots may then be picked up at Town Hall Monday through Friday 9 a.m to 5 p.m and returned by the closing of the polls at 8pm on May 6, 2019 Election Day.

The final day to request an application by mail will be Friday, April 26, 2019.  






CANDIDATE INFORMATION

WHO CAN RUN FOR MAYOR?  

Candidates for Mayor must be 25 years old on or before the date of election;
» a citizen of the United States;
» a registered voter; and
» a resident of Cheverly for not less than six months.

WHO CAN RUN FOR COUNCIL?
 
Candidates for Councilmember must be 21 years old on or before the date of election;
» a citizen of the United States;
» a registered voter; and
» a resident of Cheverly for not less than six months.  
» a resident of the Ward for which they are running, prior either to the date of filing, or 45 days immediately preceding the date of the Election in the case of a write-in candidate.  

FILING INSTRUCTIONS for CANDIDATES
Nomination filing forms may be obtained at the Town Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm) or download the form (see above).  Call 301-773-8360 for information.

All candidates must submit a completed Financial Disclosure form.

Completed forms must be returned to the Town Office no later than March 22, 2019, 45 days before the Election.

Photos & Profiles of Candidates must be submitted by Friday, March 22, 2019 to be included in the Cheverly Newsletter.  
» Photo should be a closeup -- must be cropped to about 2”x2”.
» Candidate Profiles must be brief (no longer than 350 words). Profiles will appear as written.  They will not be edited or corrected; however, if the profile is too long, staff will have to shorten it by cutting off at the paragraph closest to the limit.
